Presentation of the JEP: 
Objectives and Outputs



Main Objective:
    Modernisation of two-subject teacher education in physics and mathematics at Nicholas Copernicus University, Toruń and Higher School of Pedagogy, Olsztyn (Poland).
Operational objectives:
  1. Supporting the reform of Polish educational system by elaboration of a model solution of two-subject teacher education, aimed at a competent and creative teacher using new information technology tools for teaching and for communication by: 
    • elaboration or adaptation from the EU countries a list of competences of a newly qualified school teacher, 
    • restructuring of the existing courses of mathematics, experimental and theoretical physics, psychology, education sciences, philosophy, sociology, physics and mathematics education and computer sciences, 
    • development of new academic courses, as environmental science , practical astronomy, science & technology in society, 
    • organising short intensive courses of modern languages, school management, curriculum studies, assessment and evaluation theory and practice and using computer tools and methods in science and mathematics education, 
    • constructing syllabi with core subjects for the above courses. 
  2. Development of more active teaching methods based on EU standards, especially the methods of vocational education in accordance with the needs for the 21st century students’ key competencies and UNESCO „Science and Technology Literacy for All” Project 2000+, i.e. skills of problem solving, collaborative work and communication using information technology and lifelong learning.

  4. Creation of mechanisms for implementation of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

  6. Upgrading knowledge and skills of academic teachers in the field of physics, mathematics, psychology, education and computer sciences and modern languages.

  8. Modernisation of education laboratories (hardware, software, books, journals, CD-ROMs, educational packages, etc., including translation of selected items) and creation of science and mathematics resource library for teachers from Higher Schools of Pedagogy and other teacher training institutions from all over Poland.

  10. Evaluation and dissemination of the JEP outcomes in books, textbooks, publications, etc., and organising an International Workshop for teachers and advisors of science teachers to publicise the outcomes of the project throughout Poland.

  12. Implementation of the elaborated model of two subject teacher education in the Higher School of Pedagogy in Olsztyn.
