Weak forces between molecules are of crucial importance in many areas of physics, chemistry and biology. I'm particularly interested in highly accurate calculations of potential energy surfaces in simple, few-atom systems which are important in experimental studies (spectroscopy, molecular beam experiments, cold collisions in external trapping potentials). I'm also interested in development of new methods used in calculations of molecular interactions, based on density functional theory, as well as wavefunction methods. I'm also interested in new methods of describing interactions of open-shell species, as they are of particular importance in chemical reactions, and still are far from routine.
Most of my research is focused on molecular interactions, however, I'm fascinated with lot of other problems that appear between physics and chemistry. One of the most interesting topics I was fortunate to explore is cold chemistry and cold physics. For example, recent sub-Kelvin collisions in molecular merged beams provided an exceptional opportunity for studies of the molecular interactions in peculiar systems, like metastable helium colliding with simple molecules... |
