Laboratory of Optical Medical Imaging

Head: Maciej Wojtkowski

The goal of the group activity working in this laboratory is to conduct high profile studies in the field of biomedical imaging. The research conducted focuses on the fundamental physical aspects of optical imaging. The group has pioneered the use of Fourier Domain Optical Coherence Tomography in visualization of ocular tissues, and since then the development of novel optical imaging modalities applied to ophthalmology is the primary area of our research interest. Our current efforts are focusing on:

  • Morphological imaging of the anterior and posterior segments of the human eye.
  • Functional ophthalmic studies.
  • Advancements in high speed, in vivo, optical imaging.
  • Development of novel data processing methods.

The group also supports high level teaching of students of various specialties including experimental physics, medical physics and informatics.

The group would like to collaborate on exploiting optical properties of turbid media to control the propagation of light and to obtain information about the structures located inside optically inhomogeneous objects.
